“Nitrogen stimulates growth and aids in the production of chlorophyll. Phosphorus is typically associated with healthy root and stem growth in grass plants. And potassium facilitates the thickening of cell walls, which in turn allow the turf to withstand outside pressures from heat, drought, insect, and disease.”
What Fertilizer is the Best?
“The reason that there are so many options available is because everybody’s got their own path, or journey, that they’ve got to take based on their own site’s conditions. That’s why in the past, we’ve talked about soil testing. You need that baseline data in order to set the strategy to move forward with your N, P, and K. It’s always a good idea to consult your local county extension service. They’ll have generally available information on how much N, P, and K is probably needed on a yearly basis for lawns in your general area. Additionally, they’ll be able to clue you in on any local restrictions that might exist on any of those elements.
