Look Before You Pump — and Buy the Right Fuel for Your Outdoor Power Equipment

Close up of black fuel tank on lawnmower featuring three types of fuel; E10, E15, E85 with a green circle around E10 and a red circle around E15 and E85 with a warning label stating "Use of E85 & E15 in this product is prohibited by federal law".

Most outdoor power equipment was not built, designed or warranted to run on fuel greater than E10, and using higher ethanol blends can damage or destroy it. In fact, using any fuel that contains more than 10 percent ethanol is illegal to use in outdoor power equipment. The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute encourages you to “look before you pump” to ensure it is the right fuel for your outdoor power equipment engine.
