A native of South Carolina, Linda Askey is a writer and photographer contributing to magazines such as The American Gardener, and Southern Living’s garden guide, Garden Design, as well as Meredith books. As a garden consultant, she advises home gardeners, as well as the Southern Environmental Center on their native tree arboretum, Meditation Garden, and EcoScape gardens. Linda joined Southern Living in 1979 as Assistant Garden Editor, served as Garden Editor for Southern Accents magazine for two years in the early 90s, and held the position of Garden Editor of Southern Living from 1995 until 2000.
She is currently balancing a life filled to the brim with work, family, and her own garden. Her personal 4 1/2 acre property serves as the subject of her photos and writings, as well as an outdoor classroom for her ongoing education.
Linda earned a BS degree in Horticulture from Clemson University and a MS degree from North Carolina State University. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Garden Writers Association and Aldridge Gardens. In addition to her enthusiasm for the experience of gardening, she works with homeless dogs to find loving homes and enjoys making pottery, assuming there isn’t enough clay in her garden soil to keep her happy.
