Spring Equipment Preparation

Thumbs Up TipAfter your equipment has been stored all winter, you should take your machine(s) to a local dealer for any needed maintenance or repairs before using it during the upcoming season.  If you like to perform your own maintenance or product repair, check out your equipment and order the parts you need.

Walk Power Mowers

  1. Carefully check blades for sharpness.
  2. Make sure the cutting deck is clear of clippings.
  3. Check pull cords to ensure they are not frayed and are in good working condition.
  4. Check that the attachments are connected and working properly.
  5. Review the starting procedures outlined in the Operator’s Manual including proper operation of your unit such as oil change and air filter maintenance.

Riding Mowers

  1. Thoroughly charge the battery before reinstalling (see Operator’s Manual for more details).
  2. Check electrical system for loose or dirty connections.
  3. Check spark plugs annually.
  4. Clean all old debris from spark plugs.
  5. Make sure tires are properly inflated.
  6. Review the starting procedures outlined in the Operator’s Manual including proper operation of your unit such as oil change and air filter maintenance.

Hand-Held Leaf Blowers & Edgers/Trimmers

  1. Clean or replace spark plugs annually.
  2. Make sure all components are in operating condition.
  3. Check that straps, handles, nuts, and bolts are secure.
  4. Review the starting procedures outlined in the Operator’s Manual, including proper operation of your unit such as oil change and air filter maintenance.

What if My Machine Won’t Start?

  • Do you have fresh fuel (less than 30 days old)?
  • Is your spark plug wire attached to the spark plug?
  • Is the spark plug wire clean and in good condition?
  • Is the battery fully charged (if applicable)?
